Yoga in Playa del Carmen

There are many different styles of yoga in Playa del Carmen! The difficulty is not finding a class but deciding which one to go to!

Check out this list of studios and classes around town:

The Gym

First Avenue near Avenida Constituyentes

As you know, we were members of The Gym where I attended yoga classes and found there to be a good range of classes and styles by great teachers. There is also a beach-front yoga class on Saturday mornings, and a beach-front Tai-chi class on Sundays.

Yoga by the Sea

Coco Maya beach club, On the beach between calle 12 and 14

Yoga on the shores of the Caribbean!

Yoga by the Way

Calle 26, in between 5th and 10th

An established yoga studio with vinyasa classes, run by well known teachers Ellen de Jonge and David Campo.

Ananda Yoga

Calle 34 and Av 75

Located across the highway, this is becoming a popular yoga community with a great range of classes and workshops.

Posada Suuk

CTM and 5th

Posada Suuk has a variety of different healing classes, as well as martial arts, meditation classes and more. The guided meditation on Tuesday evenings is an experience. They also offer some accommodation on site if you want to do a self-led yoga retreat.

Yoga loft

Calle 10 and Avenida 15

This relatively new addition to the yoga scene in Playa del Carmen is run by Micheal Gannon, a well-known teacher who holds many workshops and retreats.

Yoga District

Calle 26 between 5th and 10th

Another new addition, with some great teachers such as Alan Montana, who teaches a challenging, invigorating class.

Private Classes

My friend Anne Bauche is a fantastic yoga teacher who teaches a gentle Hatha flow style. She has a calm, soothing presence and I love her classes. She teaches at a few locations around the Riviera Maya and also offers private lessons. Anna speaks Spanish and also fluent English. You can email her at:

Another one of my favorite yoga teachers, Karla Sekera, teaches classes at The Gym (Tuesday and Thursday mornings) and also teaches private classes. She teaches mostly in Spanish, but also speaks English. Her classes are intense and invigorating. Check out her website here:

Donation classes

Keep an eye (or ear) out around town for donation-based yoga classes. At the time this was published, there were yoga classes on the rooftop of the Soho Playa hotel on Av 10 and Calle 24.

Precision Pilates Studio

Fifth Avenue, near calle 38

A friend of mine attended classes here, and as far as I know it is the only pilates studio in Playa del Carmen.

Other outdoor classes

The sports ground on 10th Avenue (entrance near Calle 32) holds many outdoor fitness and sporting activities, from fitness boot camps to salsa classes, drum circles and everything in between. I think it’s a ‘show up and pay’ system.

There are outdoor Zumba classes held at a few basketball courts around town, such as the one on Avenida CTM and Avenida 25, which are fun to watch and open to everyone for a small charge.

  1. I have been enjoying the donation based yoga at Kava Kasa (in the Aventura Mexicana hotel) on Calle 24 between 5 and 10th avenue. They are very welcoming, offer a variety of classes, and are very affordable!

    • I second what Gillian said about the donation-based yoga classes at Kava Kasa! They have a really nice vibe and offer classes Monday-Friday 9am, 11am, 6pm, and 7:30pm as well as Saturdays & Sundays at 9am & 11am. Anne Bauche is actually one of their many great teachers! Tuesdays from 11am-2pm they also have a local market there!

    • Yes! I take classes at Palapa Suuk in Playa – its on CTM (Calle 46) and 5th. Inti Centro Holistico on calle 4 and the beach also has classes. I don’t know about Kundalini in Tulum. Let me know if you need more info, love to catch a class with you 😊

  2. Hi there!
We are on our way to Playa del Carmen for a 40th bday girls trip. Would love a yoga class on the ocean…something beautiful, special. Any ideas? Thanks!

  3. Hello Sarah:-) I just arrived in Playa del Carmen and planning on staying here for a while. I started looking up yoga classes recommendations and your blog popped up! Would you by any chance know which studios offer classes in English? That would speed up the search process a lot…thank you :-) Natalia

    • Hi Natalia, I hope you are enjoying Playa. I don’t know of any English speaking studios, though some teachers will translate a little if they can. Yogaloft is a big Vinyasa school with some English speaking teachers, I believe. When I return to Playa early November I intend to teach Kundalini yoga on the beach – I will let you know when I begin! :-)

  4. Hi,
we are heading to Playa for Thanksgiving and will love a yoga class by the ocean. it is only 3 of us. Could you guide us to someone preferable in English?
