Sarah Chamberlain is an Australian traveller, adventurer, yoga teacher and creator of the free-movement dance practice, Divine Dance, based in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Her dance and yoga retreats are designed to share the places, people, and cultures that are close to her heart. Holbox is one of her favorite places in the world due to its unique atmosphere and natural beauty.
The idyllic island of Holbox (pronounced hol-bosh) is just a few hours from Cancun international airport via road and ferry. Famous for it’s spectacular sunsets, glistening emerald seas and laid back, fishing village vibe, Holbox is also part of the Yum-Balam nature reserve which is home to a vast array of plant and animal life.
The retreat takes place at a beach-front property, Villas Flamingos. A large pool, two restaurants, spacious yoga studio with spectacular sea views, elegant, air-conditioned rooms, spa, friendly staff and ‘those famous hammocks’ make this a world-class destination to relax, connect with nature and unwind.
The atmosphere of Holbox is muy tranquilo – there are no paved roads and very few vehicles on the island – which makes it the perfect place to unplug from the pressures and distractions of every day life.
Holbox offers an opportunity to immerse yourself the elements of nature. The sunsets, the stars, the moon, the sea and the birds reminds us that we are connected to a power greater than us. Experiencing this connection reminds us what is important and allows us to come into balance – body, mind and soul.
