About

Ever wanted to travel the world long-term without an end date in sight? Well we did (no, not me and the friendly lady I met at Tiananman square, my boyfriend and I). Unsatisfied with ‘normal’ life and feeling like there had to be something more than unfulfilling jobs, a mortgage and mounting bills, we sold it all to travel the world and follow our passions – travelling, writing and taking pretty pictures.

That’s Tyrhone, my boyfriend (In the blue T-shirt…)
In February we set off with only the stuff on our backs and a very vague plan: travel the world for as long as we want to, for as little as comfortably possible. Okay, it hasn’t all been comfortable (bed bugs in Laos and public toilets in China spring to mind) but it has been one hell of an adventure!
We chilled out on the islands of Cambodia, meditated with monks in Thailand, politely declined opium in Laos, and scaled a volcano in Indonesia. In China, I pooped in a bin (not my finest moment).
After six months in Asia, we headed to Mexico. We were there for a whole three months, swimming, exploring ancient ruins, and eating our body weight in guacamole whilst we waited to see if the world would end.

It didn’t! So in January, 2013 I participated in the in The Rickshaw Run India, driving 3500 KM across the country in a three-wheeled glorified lawnmower that broke down continuously (I wanted to do something interesting before the doomsdayers came up with another end-of-the-world prediction for me to worry about).
We have now returned to Playa del Carmen, Mexico for it’s amazing beaches, yoga and TACOS. Yep, we just can’t get enough of these crazy Mayans and their ancient practical jokes…
That’s us, smiling because the world DIDN’T END! And you know what that means? More Tacos!

Isn’t it crazy how many years it takes before we actually just stop and ask ourselves what we really want? I think some people go their whole lives without doing that. Three cheers to you and all of the other brave souls in the world who follow their passion and march forward despite the fear!
Thanks so much Kim, for your words of encouragement, and for following your own dreams of travel, creativity and adventure!
…Sarahsomewhere
I’m looking forward to reading about your adventures!
Ditto! Thanks for taking the time to stop by, it means a lot
Brilliant blog babe! Can’t wait to hear of all your adventures am so proud of you!
Love Kelly
Thanks honey!
I just found you through Kim, and must say the description on why you love travel hit home for me ( on the sidebar).
Especially the people who affect you along the way, the ones you know will fade from your life.
Since I’ve been doing this professionally, I’ve been missing those interactions and especially the wonder of travel. Time to go back to the beginning.
Cheers!
Thank you so much, I am really enjoying your blog, and I’m honoured that you stopped by, thank you so much for your words of encouragement, and wonderful example
Here here! Great bio! Wishing you awesome experiences
Thank you Jayne, I need all the encouragement I can get, so your words are much appreciated! Thanks for stopping by
Hey there,
I’m in a really rubbish internet cafe somewhere in Northern Kerala so I’ve only read a couple of posts but I’m so excited to explore your blog and am very intrigued by the post about turning 30 and finding meaning in Varanasi!
So nice to come across you, all the best with your travel plans,
Deborah Rose.
Great to hear from you! Kerala…aaah… one of my favourite places, enjoy, and I look forward to following along with your travels
Thanks for stopping by, it’s so wonderful to connect with other travelers (and writers!).
I saw your comment at Almost Fearless. It caught my eye because I’m still stuck with the dreaming part on traveling. Well at least for now
I just wanted to let you know that it’s really inspiring to find bloggers like you who are living their travel dreams.
P.S. Do you have Twitter? I’d love to get updates on your trips from there. My Twitter name is @adathedaydreamr
Wow that was quick! Great to hear from you, and yes I have recently gotten on to twitter, though I am still learning about it! Thanks for stopping by and I sincerely wish you every success in turning your dream into reality!
Thanks! I wish you well too in your journey to fulfill your traveling dreams
i am so excited for you. I am looking forward to following your adventures! Good Luck
Thanks so much! I am excited too! I look forward to sharing my adventures, and I really appreciate you taking the time to stop by and make a comment, it means a lot! I look forward to having a look at your site too
Hi Sarah, love your blog!
It has been added to my Google reader and my link list on backpackified.com. Am looking forward to seeing your future updates, it seems we are in somewhat the same situation, so I will definitely keep my eyes open for some tips and tricks!
And hey, I just noticed our travel routes are basically identical as well. When exactly are you heading off?
Hi Kjersti, thanks very much! I just had a quick peek at your blog it looks great too! Im not sure when we are going, I am waiting to hear from my job when they can release me! I am hoping for February, as this would suit us best, so fingers crossed. I notice you are stopping off in Singapore, and you’re right it can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. I recommend finding a cheap hotel near chinatown, which has some great (and cheap) eateries, temples and markets. If you do have the time, I think Singapore is still worth seeing, even if only for a couple of days. Thanks so much for stopping by, and all the best for your travels. Who knows, we may even bump into each other somewhere!
Do you read http://www.neverendingvoyage.com ? It has alot of info in Thailand.
Hi Sarah, thanks so much for checking out my blog. It’s great to feel supported by the blogging community already! I have just added you to my Google Reader and read all of your posts – I loved them! I can’t wait to follow along with the rest of your journey. Adding you to my links page now too – I wish you all the best xxx
Thank you! I’ll add you to my links too
Looking forward to reading more from your blog, thanks for stopping by!
Thanks, that would be great
Wow, such an inspiring and great blog you have. I have to say that I am seeing India completely differently through the pictures on this blog. Growing up in Mumbai, I guess I just was lost amongst the crowd and never had the chance to fathom its beauty. Thanks a LOT for providing a different perspective of my own country
You should also check out FOGOdessy’s blog, some great pictures of India there too.
I look forward to following your journey!
Ciao
Ajay
Thanks Ajay! Nice to ‘meet’ you! Just checked out your site briefly, it looks great. And thanks so much for the link, I shall return the favour… Mumbai hey? Awesome city, in the true sense of the word
I would imagine it would be a VERY different city to live in than to visit – I’d love to hear about it! Thanks for stopping by and I wish you all the best in your travels and adventures.
Thanks in advance for the linking
Mumbai, ahh, you dont want to get me started
people feel it is very crowded and noisy, but I love my birth city with all my heart, the only other place I felt closer to is New York, I consider them siblings (you know, sister from another mister OR brother from another mother kind). And most recently, Chicago has become my fave city, I will be posting about it very soon.
Ciao
Ajay
Brother-from-another-mother indeed! Glad you have fond memories of your birth city, I certainly LOVED visiting!
I think you have an exciting adventure/life ahead. There’s nothing wrong with babies but equally there’s nothing wrong with following your dreams of adventure and exotic locations either! I’ll be supporting you on your journey and have joined your Twitter followers. If you ever make it to Yorkshire, England be sure to give me a lookup!
Hi Sarah,
I write a weekly column at 101 Holidays and am currently putting together a list of travel bloggers to watch in 2012, similar to this one: http://www.101holidays.co.uk/news/travel-news/25-best-travel-blogs
I’d like to include you in the list and it would be nice if we could illustrate it with an image of you. Would it be ok to use the portrait image from your blog for this purpose?
Many thanks,
Holly

Hi Holly, yes of course, what a nice surprise! Thank you for including me, I am truly honoured. Anything else you need, please let me know, and again, thanks.
I checked out your blog and loved the stories you wrote-a great source of information/inspiration, as we will be traveling to many of the same places you visited. Also read the first chapter of your book- very intruiging, what an original idea! Good luck on the publishing front, and as for the movie deal, I think it’s a real possibility! Good luck!
Hey, just found your blog through the travelfish newsletter. Love it. You’re on a very similar journey of self-discovery to me. I sold my house in 2008 and got a redundancy in 2009 and started travelling. Needless to say it has been an incredible journey marked by some truly life changing moments. I’m sure your journey will have similar ups and downs — it makes for a great life. Good luck with everything!
Thanks Adam! Yes, it’s a crazy ride, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. All the best with your travels too, and thanks very much for stopping by and offering your support!!
Sarah- Your story is inspiring!
I hope to one day backpack with my boyfriend. There is so much to see in the world!
Glad you took the leap and are living a dream.
Are you kidding me? I just read some of your wonderful blog. You travelled AFRICA on your own! I take my hat off to YOU Lauren

Hi! I was sitting next to your Mum on the plane yesterday from Singapore – London, and she told me about your adventure and told me about your blog! It was one of the most amazing and inspiring things that I have ever heard … I guess many people have the same dream but not the guts to fulfill it. I am sure that there are many people out there living vicariously through you
I look forward to following your journey!!!
Wow! That’s so cool!!! So lovely to hear from you, I hope you have recovered from your jetlag

Hi Sarah,
Well done! It takes courage to back up and go. But once you do you can feel the freedom.
Keep going and explore the beauty of the world and keep on the discovery of your inner soul.

You have a great blog. Beautiful and easy layout. Can’t wait to read more. I am now going to click on the link for when you pooped in a bin. Should be funny.
Thank you! Your upcoming adventure sounds awesome!! And yes, it was pretty funny in retrospect, but at the time… hell!!!
I woke up this morning realizing I think I finally know what I want to do with my life. Only being 19 years old, I have my whole life ahead of me and how could I possibly know what I want being so young? After graduating high school I packed up and moved to Florida and started college. But I couldnt just choose one major and be stuck in a job that I could possibly hate in 5-10 years! I dont want to be put in the position my sister was, paying 50 grand in debt from college. (although she is doing just fine and loves her job). I want something more though, I want to have fun and see things most people never have the chance to see or do! I want to live and be free! Ive always had this free-spirited mind, and the one to jump first at a chance to take the road less traveled! But today, today is the day I woke up and realized Im going to go for it! Ive followed your blog along with a ton of other adventurist. Ive been inspiried by all of you! And hope to start my adventure soon!
Tierney, I can feel the fire and excitement in your words, and all I can say is GO FOR IT. Sometimes we need to spend time preparing for the dream, saving money etc so we can make it happen, but as long as you keep your ‘eye on the prize’ I have no doubt you’ll get there. All the best and thanks for reading!
Hi Sarah. I have just come across your blog and I love it, especially your recent post on your feelings about being back in Mexico. It really resonated with me and made me realise that there are others out there just like me! (you don’t know how much of a relief that is!)
I’m heading to Mexico at the end of March so it would be great to meet for a cocktail if you haven’t got into writing your book by then
Thanks so much, look forward to it
